First public-private partnership in composites skills development

Composites Training Academy and SARETEC sign agreement

THE Composites Training Academy has signed an agreement with the South African Renewable Energy Technology Centre (SARETEC) and will use their state-of-the-art facility as a base for the Academy.

“We are extremely encouraged by this development as it is a first as far as a public-private partnership is concerned in the composites skills development arena,” says Oliver Dawson who heads up the Composites Training Academy (CTA).

Composites Training Academy Launches in Nigeria

After working to establish a composites presence in Nigeria, CTA is proud to announce our first skill project in Lagos. In September 2017, we will be offering a short course in fibreglass linings, focusing on swimming pools, water tanks and existing concrete water pipes, we will also be looking at the basics processing techniques of open and closed composite moulding

 

 
Composites Training Academy promoting SA industry’s ability globally

SIX years on and the Cape-Town based Composites Training Academy (CTA) is achieving many of its founding objectives – among them to convert the hands-on knowledge and expertise of skilled professionals in the African composites industry into economic value.

Established in 2010, the CTA is raising the awareness of commercial opportunities in the rapidly expanding composites market and developing skills as an essential ingredient and building block for individuals and organizations to become both locally and globally competitive in the polymeric composites sector. “Laying a foundation for skills development will ensure a workforce that produces high-value products at consistent standards,” said Oliver Dawson, founder and COO of the CTA.

Key relationships developed with manufacturing industry “We have developed key relationships within local and international manufacturing and material supply companies to further enhance our ability to deliver world-class training programmes, knowledge transfer projects, global secondment opportunities as well as technology development projects,” he added. Since beginning his career in 1994, Dawson has gained extensive experience in production as well as project management, along with moulding and technical experience across various application sectors. He is passionate about promoting SA’s composite manufacturing ability throughout the rest of Africa, and ultimately, globally.

CTA roles out Audits and Assessments in PE

CTA has started the process of conduction Operational Audits, and Skills Assessments on three well established convertors of composite materials in Port Elizabeth. Sponsored by the Mandela Bay Composites Cluster, CTA is making good headway in understanding the composite manufacturing landscape in the Eastern Cape. TAG Yachts, Kestrel Eveready and Schroeder Motorhomes have been first inline to take part.
